ABOUT MYSELF

TDS Junior Moving Images
Aspiring Film Maker cum Graphic DESIGNER
DESTi, T02
I believe that PASSION is the word.
Currently working as a freelance card designer in one of the companies in Singapore. I do up cards for different occasions and have been doing it for 2 years.
I love to draw, photoshop-ing and do photography, apart from film-making, which I'm going to major in it now. Drawing and doodling is a way for me to fill me in during boredom. My dream is to become a graphic designer who majors in video, photography and graphics.
Apart from that, I've majored the basics in tailoring. My mom's a tailor and she taught me the pros and cons of sewing. I've sawn my very own 'Baju Kurung', a malay traditional clothes, with her guidance.
Born on 8th August 1989, and the 2nd of the three siblings, she recently turned eighteenth and have a huge passion in fashion and graphic designing. Currently pursuing Diploma in Moving Images and majoring in video, she has never give up her dreams to be a Graphic Designer.

MY STYLE
My style is basically playing with lines and shapes. Most of my artworks are in black and white and cutouts. I love exploring Adobe Photoshop and whenever ideas struck, I'll straight away draw it up and transfer it to my laptop.
I do love photography but I feel that my graphics are better than pictures. As you scroll down, you'll see different kinds of artworks that make use of black markers.
Black And White Images:
I have different other styles but the aboves are the best.

MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
I believe that everyone has their own style and techniques in design. Some are better in photography but as for me, I'm into graphics. I do take photos during my free time but graphics is what I do best.
I believe that designs can also be superb in many ways. It does not need to be fanciful but the rationale that counts.
---------------------------------------------
MY INFLUENCES
My mom is the person who greatly influenced me in my designs. I look up to her as my mentor. She's a tailor cum "fashion designer" for malay traditional clothings.
Her doodles and drawings somehow started me to like drawing since young.

Why I choose HIM?
The reason is simple. Just take a look at his paintings and I'm sure something in you will question why he did this and that. I love his works as he brought surrealism to a style which was uniquely his own. I love the weird painted objects which he placed them in unreal relation to one another by using only familiar objects but bringing them together in such unreal ways.
He is able to make the viewers think and reflect and he makes me question the nature of accepted reality. His ability to make paintings different from others has influence me to bring design into something 'out of the box'.
-------------------------------------------------
Difference between his & my STYLE.
As said in the previous section where i explained about my style,
I've stated that my style is more on BLACK & WHITE and cut outs. I'm more into graphics where things are real and my designs are more of a Pop Art than Surrealism.
My designs are straight forward and i infuse the elements of cartoons and playing a lot with lines and textures.
Whereas Magritte's style is Surrealism. He developed pictorial style, which includes figures of the ordinary world in an extraordinary order. He plays with ones mind and the paintings he drew were unreal and unusual.
He used impact colours, with sharp and crisp lines which enhanced the overall painting. His paintings were mostly infusions of things that does not belong together and merged as one.
-------------------------------------------------
Rationale
I am inspired by Magritte 1964's 'The Son Of Man' painting in which a man's face is obscured by an apple. I was amazed by this painting when it was featured in the famous 1999's 'The Thomas Crown Affair' film that was recently telecast in Channel 5.
By looking at the painting, it evokes some emotions in me and therefore inspires me to create the blog's skin.
To achieve the surrealism style which is so different from my style, i thought of using my 'cut out' style and infuse the elements of weirdness.
I play a lot with lines. I used strips of gray and white as to give a hallucination feel. I combined a picture of a girl, hang on strings with obscuration of different apples to show that the image is floating on air. I infuse Magritte's style of placing a green apple in the man's face into my design. The face of the girl will keep changing with various pictures of 'APPLES'. From an apple to iPod and finally with lots of apples in a bowl.
I smudge the face to give an illusion look. I placed objects on the face, which was influenced by 'The Son Of Man's painting.
From apple to Apple's iPod.
Why 'The Papercut Machine' ?
Well, the main focus for my blogskin is mainly on the girl, whose face is obscured by various forms of apples hanging in the hallucinating background.
As the girl is seen as being 'paste' on the background and with random apples appearing on the face, it forms a machine whereby everything moves and keep changing at the same time.
